Plastic-i

Plastic-i is our marine debris analytics service, which can be accessed through the Planetixx Observatory.

We use satellite data from multiple providers which when analysed by our AI algorithms can detect coastal debris accumulations. Plastic-i is most useful for clean-up operators and environmental organisations/departments, to improve their operational efficiency, identify hotspots, understand long term debris trends and assess the effectiveness of interventions.

With global coverage, the Observatory can be used to analyse areas of any size, with functionality for:

• Identifying debris flows over time

• Identifying the build up and dispersal of accumulations

• Comparing AI detections to the raw satellite imagery

• Forecasting debris movement for up to 3 days into the future

• Creating “risk maps” covering large areas of coastline

We are actively working on new products and services relating to marine debris, with our “Riverwatch” product being released soon, which is tailored to analyse rivers for plastic hotspots. This will help organisations decide where to place interventions, such as trash booms, as well as offer continuous monitoring of any existing cleanup operations.
